Choosing a category

Four things narrow it: how far you are going, how many people are traveling, how much baggage is coming, and what the runway will take at both ends. Most trips out of Philadelphia are regional, and a light or midsize jet covers those comfortably. Range starts to matter on Florida and West Coast runs. Cabin size starts to matter once you are more than a couple of hours in the air. Turboprops earn their place on shorter fields, and above nineteen passengers the trip moves into airliner-size aircraft operating under FAR Part 121 or foreign equivalent standards rather than FAR Part 135. Airports

Northeast Philadelphia (KPNE) is the default for most charter trips, with a 7,000-foot runway and customs available around the clock with prior notice. Philadelphia International takes anything up to airliner size. New Castle (KILG) suits the southern side of the region, Trenton-Mercer (KTTN) the north, and Chester County (KMQS) at Coatesville is closest to the Great Valley and Malvern corridor.

• FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
• Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates; reports may be provided on request.
• Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
• Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

Winter is the one that catches people out, because de-icing takes time on the ramp before an aircraft can depart and a January departure can sit longer than the same trip in June.
